Education Facilities
The public school systems in the Olean area consist of five elementary schools, one middle school, three central school systems and one high school. View the website for the Olean City Schools or for all those Olean High School Alumni - please check out their website located on the Chamber's website. Allegany-Limestone Central, Hinsdale Central, and Portville Central schools also have websites. Offering alternative choices are Southern Tier Catholic School (a regionalized elementary school), Archbishop Walsh School, and Montessori Children's House of Olean, which is governed by the Department of Education.
Practical vocational training and special education programs for high school students and adults are available through the BOCES Vocational Technical Center located just outside the city.
No fewer than four colleges call the Olean area home.
A community college rooted in rich liberal arts tradition, Jamestown Community College, boasts a dynamic campus located in the center of Olean's business district. The Cattaraugus County Campus of Jamestown Community College has been serving the residents of Olean surrounding area since 1976 in a unique campus setting comprised of renovated city landmarks. The college offers fully accredited associate degrees for the student who desires career skills, a transferable education, or personal enrichment. Credit-free courses are also offered for personal and professional learning opportunities. The campus business and industry training services have been helping local businesses to become more competitive in today's global market.
St. Bonaventure University is a Franciscan university that offers undergraduate and graduate programs in liberal arts, the sciences, business and education. The university is home to the world-renowned Franciscan Institute and features the excitement of Division I college sports.
Olean Business Institute is an accredited two-year college which offers specialized education in business administration, accounting, management and secretarial science. The school has been a mainstay of downtown Olean for decades.
Empire State College offers a non-traditional approach to an associate, bachelor's or master's degree in a variety of arts and sciences. The college is part of the SUNY system.
Dresser-Rand Challenger Learning Center -- A space-themed non-profit learning center designed to stimulate a student’s interest in science, math and technology through a series of hands-on experiences and simulations that are tied to classroom learning. Students who visit the Center are split into groups but work together from a simulated space station and mission control room to complete a space mission. The Dresser-Rand Challenger Learning Center has been conducting missions since fall 2009.
The Center’s primary focus is to get kids excited about math and science, but the center is also open for corporate training sessions and community events. To schedule a space mission or for more information, call the center at 716-379-8686. BROCHURE
