2010 HOME AND GARDEN SHOW

It’s the start of a new year, a time for resolutions and perhaps the opportunity to re-organize, re-work, remodel or renovate. Well, grab your notebook and your pencil; dust off your hammer and head to the Greater Olean Home and Garden Show for tons of ideas, experts, exhibits and products that will help you get started.

Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that booths are now available for the annual Home and Garden Show, held at the William O. Smith Recreation Center in Olean April 9-11. The Home Show is a unique marketplace to shop, compare and save on a total selection of home-related products and services for building, remodeling, gardening and decorating. The show that gives you more project ideas for your home and garden is expected to draw thousands of visitors during its three day run.

The show dates and times are April 9, 5 PM to 9 PM, April 10, 10 AM to 8 PM, and Sunday, April 11, 10 AM to 4 PM. Exhibitor space is limited, area businesses are encouraged to make booth reservations as soon as possible. GOACC members will receive discount booth space. 2009 Home Show Great Kickoff for home/garden renovation projects

The 38th Annual Greater Olean Area Home and Garden Show welcomed more than 4,600 visitors April 17-19. Eighty-six vendors were on hand to display and demonstrate products from hot tubs, to gardening and landscaping supplies, along with heating and cooling systems. The event, hosted by Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, was co-sponsored by their thirty-eight corporate sponsors.

The vendors at the Home and Garden Show were enrolled in a contest for “Best Booth” based on neatness, presentation, props, information, and theme-related. The theme this year is “Once Upon a Springtime.” Winners for 2009 Greater Olean Area Home and Garden Show go to FIRST PLACE - Wayne Companies, SECOND PLACE - Hammond’s Furniture Store, THIRD PLACE - Shelby Glass Block.

The winners of the Times Herald/Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Home Depot of Olean Home Show Door Prizes (Prizes valued at a total of $2,000) were GRAND PRIZE of Cub Cadet Lawn Mower; Homelite Mighty Lite Trimmer; One Set Scott’s Lawn Treatment with Spreader went to Russell Martin of Portville, NY. SECOND PRIZE of John Deere Cart, Lawn Tools - rake, spade shovel, flat shovel; One Set Scott’s Lawn Treatment with Spreader went to Jerry Morgan of Olean, NY. THIRD PRIZE of Behr’s Exterior Paint (10 gallons); Pallet Stone Patio Block went to Harry Ebert of Allegany, NY. FOURTH PRIZE of Brinkman Four Burner Gas Grill went to Sean Budd of Olean, NY.

WINNERS of the BEST TASTING WATER was the Village of Portville with runners up the Town of Hinsdale and the City of Olean. The water contest was sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Health Department. Portville’s water will go on to compete in a regional state competition to qualify for the state contest. Cabot Cheese Company of Vermont gave away over 35 lbs of cheese with their Horseradish Cheddar the winning flavor of the show. Cabot Cheese is a farm family-owned company of 1500 farmer-owners nestled throughout New England and upstate New York. The multimillion dollar dairy products company produces butter, sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, Monterey Jack, as well as their acclaimed premium cheddar cheeses. Their brand can be found in fine specialty stores, health food outlets and supermarkets from Vermont to Florida.

The winners of the Wellness Fair Gift Baskets were Roger Geis and Julie Shembeda Burns of Bradford, PA; Diana Charles and Gina Scroggins of Olean, NY; Joe Hupf of Allegany, NY; Lynn Baldi of Franklinville, NY; Elizabeth Barry of Eldred, PA. “Although Saturday’s weather kept many people outside (attendance was similar to last year with 4,600 people), the vendors did a phenomenal job with their exhibits and the show attendees were pleased with the selection (and number) of vendors.” stated Nancy Morgan, Chamber’s Member Services Coordinator.
