First Taste Located at WVP – One Taste’y Choice
A Taste of Olean 2016, presented by Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, National Grid Co., The Mountain, the Chamber’s 49 Corporate Sponsors, was a great success at its new location – War Veterans Park! Bill Aiello, Mayor of Olean and member of Taste committee, “War Veterans Park is an ideal location. The layout of the park, the electricity capacity, water, and the pavilion – all added up to a great spot.”
The Taste had 14 restaurants and beverage vendors, 8 participants in the Marketplace at the Taste; and the Art in the Park had 20 artists.
The GOACC and its Taste of Olean Event Committee honored John and Karol Long, Anthony Fratercangelo, and the late James ‘Jim” Hastas with the 2016 Taste of Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame Awards. The Hospitality Wall of Fame recognized individuals and/or businesses who have made a significant contribution and given exceptional service to the food service/ hospitality industry in the past and who may continue to do so.
The winners of the Taste of Olean this year include: Tasters’s Choice for Overall Best Taste — the Tikki Over Rice from Mirchi’s Restaurant; the Taster’s Choice for Best Taste Main Entrée — the Bison Slider Burger from Maple Ridge Bison; the Taster’s Choice for Best Appetizer — the garlic naan from Tandoor /Taste of India; and the Taster’s Choice for Best Dessert — KEY LIME flavored baklava from AnnMarie's Baklava.
Art in the Park, sponsored by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) held in conjunction with the Taste, was a juried fine arts show showcasing the finest art in southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. The Best in Show went to Dutch Hill Pottery; the Best New Vendor went to Gaea Gems; and the Best Presentation went to Black Raven Pottery.
“The Taste of Olean committee will review the surveys from the participating vendors and the community as to gauging whether the Taste will continue in 2017. We want the Taste to be successful for those participating restaurants, but we also want to make sure that we have a nice selection of food options for the community,” stated Meme Krahe Yanetsko, Chief Operating Officer. “The decision for Taste 2017 will be made in September with announcement at that time.”
The Chamber’s next event is the Chamber’s Annual Dinner scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd. For more information on the Taste of Olean, call Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce at 716-372-4433 or email email@example.com.
