April 13, 2017
GUS MACKER OLEAN is back on the 2017 Schedule! Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball, America's largest outdoor basketball tournament, will be held in Olean August 18-20, 2017. GOACC has taken over as administrators of this year’s Gus Macker. They anticipate having 300 teams and 10,000 spectators from a 100-mile radius to attend the 3-day event and see this as a great opportunity to showcase Olean. Last year, two hundred thirty four teams played with 936 registered players.

Home Show Great Kickoff for home/garden renovation projects
April 9, 2017
The 46th Annual Greater Olean Area Home Show welcomed more than 2,838 visitors April 7-9 (similar attendance as than last year). Eighty-eight vendors were on hand to display and demonstrate products from hot tubs, to gardening supplies, along with heating and cooling systems. The event, hosted by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, was co-sponsored by their fifty corporate sponsors.
“Coming to the home show really helped our business get started and get our name out there. We made some great new friends and heard lots of awesome stories about barns and other things we could reclaim,” stated Jesse Montgomery, of Reclaimed Past, LLC, located in Limestone, NY.
The vendors at the Home Show were enrolled in a contest for “Best Booth” based on neatness, presentation, props, information, and theme-related. The theme this year is “#LOVEwhereYOUlive.” Winners for 2017 Greater Olean Area Home Show go to BEST USE OF THEME – VanDyke Agency of Great Valley, NY; BEST OVERALL BOOTH – Pfeiffer Nature Center, Portville, NY. Congratulations to both and thanks to the judges for their time and coordination. Prizes are discounts on 2018’s Greater Olean Area Home Show rental.

Cyber Security for Any Size Business
March 21, 2017
Between September and May, the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will host several Lunch & Learn workshops with speakers who will present on a variety of topics of interest to businesses.
The next workshop will feature Greg Lindberg of the U.S. Small Business Administration who will present on defining cyber security; explaining the importance of securing information through best cyber security practices; identifying types of info that should be secured; identifying the types of cyber threats; defining risk management; and listing best practices for guarding against cyber threats.
The workshop is set for April 6th, Noon to 1 p.m. at the Chamber office, first floor training room.
“Small employers often don’t consider themselves targets for cyberattacks due to their size or the perception that they don't have anything worth stealing. However, small businesses have valuable information cybercriminals seek, including employee and customer data, bank account information and access to the business's finances, and intellectual property. Small employers also provide access to larger networks such as supply chains,” added Mr. Lindberg.
The seminars are held at the Chamber’s office, 301 N. Union St., and are free for members to attend. Non-members must pay a $10 admission fee. The city has a parking lot off of West Sullivan Street near the Chamber office. For more information or to make a reservation, contact the Chamber by phone at 716-372-4433 or by email, email@example.com.
