Not One, Not Two, but Three CHAMPS will lead off this year’s Santa Claus Lane Parade
November 21, 2017
The Grand Marshals of the upcoming Santa Claus Lane Parade, Friday, November 24 include international medalists from AKT Combatives, NYS Girls Soccer Champs, the lady Gators of Allegany-Limestone Central and NYS Girls Volleyball Champs, the lady Panthers of Portville Central.  The ever-popular Parade is the official kick-off to the holiday season in the area in which Santa and Mrs. Claus light thousands of skylines and snowflakes and stars in downtown Olean.   

Power Networking Lunch & Learn

Did you know that Networking is one of the most important and fundamental aspects of growing your business?  Are you able to quickly share who you are and listen and learn about who the other person is?  Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will host its next Lunch & Learn series on Power Networking on Thursday, December 7th, Noon, at GOACC’s 3rd Floor Conference Room.

Sports/Rec Show Set for Week in January
November 15, 2017
Booths are now available for the 8th Annual Greater Olean Area Outdoor & Rec Sports Show to be held January 2018 at the Good Times of Olean Events Center.  The show dates and times are Saturday, January 20, 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, January 21, 10 AM to 3 PM. The Outdoor & Rec Sport Show is offering outdoor retailers, associations & outfitters the best opportunity to sell merchandise, secure leads, book trips and interact with the outdoor community. Use this show to establish relationships with current and new customers.

The Tradition of the Santa Claus Lane Parade

With just over a week and a half to go til the parade, officials from Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have registered more than twenty-five units for the upcoming Santa Claus Lane Parade on Friday, November 24 in which Santa and Mrs. Claus lights thousands of lights in downtown Olean.   The ever-popular Parade is the official kick-off to the holiday season in the area. The Santa Claus Lane committee encourages area organizations and businesses to participate in the parade with a float, send in a musical unit, or display historical/public vehicles in the parade.

Cloud Nine is this year’s Santa Claus Lane Ornament
November 13, 2017
Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce continues to sell its newest Santa Claus Lane ornament, a depiction of the former Cloud 9 Park.  Through the ornament sales, holiday lights are funded and can be lit in Olean from November to early January.  The ornament, in a series created by artist Kathleen McDonald, is $25.00.  Cloud Nine opened in 1964 located high a-top Mt. Hermanns in the heart of the Enchanted Mountains.  Former Olean resident and park owner Montgomery Shoemaker created this park which consisted of 400 acres of hillside recreational area with attractions for person of all ages.

Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce held its first ever strOLEAN August 2017.  This new event was defined as an event to be held in downtown Olean; event goers were able to saunter, amble, wander, walk North Union Street; and able to enjoy food, music, fine arts, classic cars and fun for all ages.

Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce is asking the community for photos of families, children, teenagers and seniors enjoying the Woodland in the City Squirrels.  Area residents and visitors are invited once again to send in their photos of the Woodland in the City Squirrels to be chosen and placed in the 2018 squirrel calendar.  The Woodland in the City (Woodland) committee and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) are sponsoring the Photo Contest.

Brian Snyder, CEO of Olean Area Federal Credit Union has been selected to receive the “L.O.U.I.E.” award at the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) Annual Dinner on Thursday, November 2nd. The Annual Dinner begins at 6 PM at Good Times of Olean Events Center. The 2017 “Enterprising Business Award” will be presented this year to two businesses: Good Times of Olean Events Center and MJ Painting Contractor Corp. The Award was established as a way to recognize GOACC members for continually and generously giving and positively impacting our communities.  The Enterprising Business Award is the highest distinction for a business given by the Chamber's 601 members.

The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce has set the date of November 2, 2017 at Good Times Events Center for its 112th Annual Dinner.  GOACC will again recognize one prominent citizen as well as a fixture of the local business community. The chamber is currently accepting nominations for its two most prestigious awards, the Love of Olean United in Enterprise (L.O.U.I.E.) Award and the Enterprising Business Award.  

Tenth Annual Macker in Olean Was a SWOOSHING Success!

The 10th Annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball in Olean was a SWOOSHING success this first year under the direction of the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce. One hundred eighty seven teams played this weekend.  The tournament had 748 registered players.

Brackets, basketballs, backboards and bragging rights are all part of the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball tournament held the weekend in Olean August 18-20.  The 3-day event, organized by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, is open to players of all ages and experience levels who are computer-matched by age, height and experience so that all participants can be competitive. The event, first held in Lowell, Michigan in 1974, is a family festival with food and music along with the basketball competition.

Friday, August 18 - Corporate Sponsor Appreciation Day

Olean Gus Macker has scheduled Friday, August 18th as the Friday FunFest.  A part of the FunFest will be the Sponsors Tournament -- open to all sponsors who would like to participate in a mini 3 on 3 basketball tourney.  (This is not the same as the actual Gus Macker 3-on-3.)  The players on your team must be actual employees (or spouse), and consist of at least two females.  The mini tournament is played to 8, win by 2, or 12 minutes which ever comes first. Registration begins at 5:30 PM, games starts at 6 PM.  Last year’s corporate sponsor tournament winner was a team from Southern Tier Agencies.  Who will have the bragging rights this year?

Assists Needed in Olean

As preparations for Olean’s upcoming Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament are nearing completion, its organizers are appealing for an assist. Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, which took over management of the annual tourney this year, is in need of volunteers to ensure this year’s Macker is again a big success for the community.

Olean’s 2017 tournament is scheduled from Aug. 18 to Aug. 20 in the city’s downtown along Delaware Avenue and North Barry Streets. Actual tournament play starts on Aug. 19.  

Macker Officials Extend Deadline
August 1, 2017
Macker officials from the organizations headquarters in Belding, Michigan have extended the deadline for Olean registration.  Entries are still being accepted for the Olean Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.  The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for visitors, students and community members to sign up for the August 18-20 Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament.
 
Entry deadline for teams interested in this year’s tournament are Sunday, August 6 at 11:59 PM for applications that are submitted on-line for internet entries.  To register on-line, go to www.macker.com. The entry fee must accompany the team application and paid by credit card.  The entry fee for four player teams is $132.  The Chamber anticipates having over 250 teams and 9,000 spectators from a 100-mile radius to attend the 3-day event and see this as a great opportunity to showcase Olean.

Early Rains Didn’t Dampen the Taste of Olean

A Taste of Olean 2017, presented by Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, National Grid Co., the Chamber’s 49 Corporate Sponsors, was again a success at the location new in 2016 – War Veterans Park.  “A few vendors were setting up at War Veterans around 8 a.m. this morning when the downpour came,” stated Meme K. Yanetsko, GOACC COO. “I was directing the Sanzo Beverage driver, Bill to his position near the front of the park, with my rain gear on and my umbrella!”

The board of directors of the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce requested its Events Committee to research and develop a new event for the Chamber.  They suggested the event help out our members and their businesses; increase the quality of life to the community and follow the Chamber’s mission.  At a meeting in June 2016, the new event, strOLEAN was born.  strOLEAN is defined as an event to be held in downtown Olean; event goers will be able to saunter, amble, wander, walk North Union Street; and will be able to enjoy food, music, fine arts, classic cars and fun for all ages.

26 Foursomes Compete In FOREth Corporate Golf Classic
July 17, 2017
The GOACC Corporate Golf Classic pits businesses against businesses in a heated competition to be deemed CORPORATE winners (and COMMUNITY winners!). The event also donates the 50/50 to a community cause/effort.  This year, the golf classic was able to donate $250 to United Way of Cattaraugus County Endowment Fund program. The event was happy to be able to support this program and to help with our community’s quality of life through this donation. 
 
The golf winners from the CORPORATE GOLF CLASSIC FORE were for the Corporate Division, Iroquois Group and for the Community Division, Fox Financial. Twenty-six foursomes competed up one from 25 teams last year.

Four More Additions to the Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame

The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and its Taste of Olean Event Committee have announced its eleventh class of inductees to the Taste of Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame Awards program: Mike and PJ McAfee, Anthony Procacci, Ola Mae Gayton, and Paul & Lisa Marra.  The Hospitality Wall of Fame recognizes individuals and/or businesses who have made a significant contribution and given exceptional service to the food service/ hospitality industry in the past and who may continue to do so.  All have succeeded in excelling at all the most important elements of a great restaurant - inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and impeccable food in its stylish artistic presentation and its innovative flavor combination.
