2010 EVENTS LINEUP
Antiques, Clams, Tastes, Motorcycles, Hunting & Fishing, and even Santa are on the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce new year’s lineup. With the kick off event of the HOME SHOW getting everyone to spruce up their homes, 2010 is a year filled with special things to do. While you are doing your remodeling, redecorating and building, put those antiques in a safe place for the ANTIQUE APPRAISAL FAIR & MARKETPLACE where you can find out if you are sitting on a gold mine or saving sentimental keepsakes. Olean area antique experts will be available to examine your items April 23 and 24.
Good food and awards go hand in hand at the ANNUAL GOOD NEWS CEREMONY which will be held Thursday, May 13. The event recognizes people who have gone above and beyond to make the Olean community a better place to live and work. The awardees are nominated by the community. Those items that turn out to be just sentimental and you no longer consider them keepsakes, set them out in the COMMUNITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE, Saturday, May 22, and sell them to the garage-salers who flock to the city for the day. With clams, clams, clams, the CHAMBER CLAMBAKE, June 9th, continues to be a fun time with a profusion of delectable food, games, music and prizes! The summer continues the fun with the TASTE OF OLEAN/ART IN THE PARK and RALLY IN THE VALLEY. Make Haste to the Taste is scheduled for Sunday, July 25 on the campus of Jamestown Community College in downtown Olean. This is the time to sample the area’s best culinary offerings, enjoy great entertainment and see exquisite artwork by local/regional artists. The bikes will roar back to town August 27-29 for the eighth Annual Rally in the Valley. The three-day event includes free concerts featuring regional bands, bike games, bike judging contests and a dice run. The GREATER OLEAN OUTDOOR AND REC SPORTS SHOW, co-sponsored by the City of Olean and GOACC, is set for September 11,12. The show will highlight exhibitors related to outdoor and environmental education, sport, leisure and recreation and will provide seminars, demos and activities. Thursday, November 4 marks the Chamber’s ANNUAL DINNER. The L.O.U.I.E. award (Love of Olean United in Enterprise) is bestowed upon an individual who exemplifies the enterprising spirit of commercial growth and admiration for the greater Olean community, qualities which were embodied in the life of Louis Marra. The Enterprising Business Award is given to a privately-owned business which demonstrates a well-planned, thorough and serious approach to business development and exemplifies the unique “hometown” charm of the area in manners of administration, customer service and quality of product. Ending the year for the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce is the 25th ANNUAL SANTA CLAUS LANE PARADE, held the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26. Along with floats, bands, horses and much more, Santa Claus himself rides through town and, giving a nod, lights up Lincoln Park and downtown Olean. Thousands of decorations adorn the park and streets for the holiday season. Specific details, vendor applications, participant registration forms will be found on GOACC’s website, www.oleanny.com, as the events develop.
