Home Show Postponed until 2021
Last month, Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce staff rescheduled the Olean Home Show originally set for April 24-26 to May 29-31. Now officials are postponing the entire event until April 16-18, 2021 due to the COVID19 restrictions.
Meme Krahe Yanetsko, GOACC COO reported, “We are actively working with our Health Department to ensure a safe place to host any and all of our events. In regards to the home show, we were assuming that the restrictions would be lifted May 15th, but that doesn't mean there may be guidelines / additional restrictions for large events. Although this event attracts 3,000 people over three days, hourly there may be between 100-300 people in a 17,000 s.f. ice skating rink.”
Additional guidelines were established and okayed by the Health Department: everyone to wear face masks; restrict the number of people on the floor; screen visitors at the door for their temperature; and locate hand sanitizer stations in numerous locations.
Erica Dreher, GOACC Member Services Manager, added, “Guidelines were established to have the show, but the show is not filled with vendors. Although this show is great revenue enhancer for our vendors by giving them leads and business into the balance of 2020, the event wouldn’t be worth the time and effort by the vendors as well as our office if it didn’t fill the 80+ booth vendors capacity.” Currently, the show was at half capacity. Please note, any vendors' deposits/fees paid to the Chamber will be returned 100% to vendors in the next weeks.
If the governor lifts the restrictions May 15, GOACC officials will be meeting with the Cattaraugus County Health Department regarding the balance of its calendar of events. Some topics to cover include: Questions on running races -- yes, it's individuals, but what happens after the finish line? Chamber Clambake or any (large) food event -- set amount of time with loads of people; and What about golf tournaments -- yes the courses are open, but what about tournaments -- do all foursomes get their own golf cart? New York State may create guidelines for large gatherings but GOACC and the Health Department want to be on the same page for any events going forward.
“Yes, it is 12-18 months before a vaccine, but there's got to be a happy medium ... have safety guidelines in place (social distancing, etc.) so that we can return to somewhat business as usual at any events in a COVID19 environment. Please stay tuned,” added Mrs. Yanetsko.
