COMPLETE DETAILS for Taste and Art

WHAT IS TASTE OF OLEAN -- Olean Business Improvement Association and Jamestown Community College launched the first Taste of Olean in 1991.  Taste of Olean was such a natural idea...with the number of great restaurants we have in the Olean area, the idea of having them all come together to give attendees a ‘taste’ of their great food was just exciting, stated committee members.  The original Tastes were held in Lincoln Park, where upwards of 2,500 people would attend the event.

Locations
1991 – 1997: Lincoln Park
1998 – 2002: North Union Street
2003 – 2015: Jamestown Community College
2016 - 2019: War Veterans Park

Lincoln Park was the obvious choice in host location.  With the nature layout, sidewalk system and trees, Lincoln Park was the first home for the Taste – until the Taste out grew this park.  The events were also held the month of August as a concluding event to Farm City Days.
North Union Street was a natural choice for a location to expand into.  It showcased many restaurants, multi stages for entertainment and more activities on the street in downtown Olean.

With the opening of the downtown campus of Jamestown Community College, it was a natural partnership to host the Taste on the lawn on campus.  The Taste also invited the Art in the Park to join in the event (they had been separated since Arts inception) and also showcased the move to September for the event.

During the time at JCC, the Taste and Art decided to move it to the summer months and went to July.  Fast forward to January 2016 – with the construction of the North Union Streets roundabouts and new medians, hosting the JCC was up in the air.

Although construction was almost complete July 2016, the Taste and Art went east to War Veterans Park.  With the expansion of electric throughout the park, it provided a great layout for the restaurants to showcase their foods.  The sidewalk layouts also created a natural flow of customers to the areas of the park for Art in the Park and the Marketplace.

•Hospitality Wall of Fame
In 2006, Joe Marra, formerly with the Old Library Restaurant and a big part of the Taste committee, suggested that GOACC recognize individuals and/or businesses who have made a significant contribution and given exceptional service to the food service/ hospitality industry in the past and who may continue to do so.

At the Taste of 2007, GOACC announced the first class of the Wall of Fame awards: late Guerino “Butch” Butchello and Chef Anthony Lentola from the Castle Restaurant, and the late Chef Pasquale “Patsy” Piccioli.  All three have succeeded in excelling at all the most important elements of a great restaurant - inviting atmosphere, friendly staff and impeccable food in its stylish artistic presentation and its innovative flavor combination.

This year, GOACC introduces its fourteenth class of the Taste of Olean Hospitality Wall of Fame Awards program: the late Mrs. Doris Mae Williams, Louis Frungillo, Jr. and Paul Green.  What all these honorees have in common is more than serving a good meal at a good price. Their restaurants were home.  Their popularity and customer loyalty stemmed from the way they have treated everyone.
